The 9th Gup White belt is the beginning rank in the martial arts. The white belt symbolizes the beginning, innocence, and purity. Throughout the training, the belt will become darker and eventually transforms into a black belt.
The beginning of martial arts training can be difficult. As the white belt is learning many new things and being introduced to the martial arts. The first thing that all white belts should learn is the student oath and the tenents of Taekwondo.
Student Oath
I will practice the martial arts with courtesy for my fellow students and will have self-control over my actions.

Courtesy – Have courtesy for yourself and others. When you are courteous to others you create positive bonds and show others that you care about them and help others that are not as strong or skilled.
Integrity – The ability to stand up for what is right. Having the ability to determine the difference between right and wrong and to have the moral compass to do the right thing in any situation.
Perseverance – Having the ability to continue in the face of adversity. Simply, don’t give up! For a martial artist, this is an important principle that can be applied to every aspect of life. It is our struggles that define us and how we react during difficult times.
Self-Control – to have control over your thoughts as well as your actions. Maintaining a pure mind as well as a pure body by keeping your emotions in check, particularly in difficult or trying circumstances.
Indomitable Spirit – Having the internal fortitude and spirit that cannot be overcome easily. Be an unconquerable indomitable warrior.
The white belt has many other things to learn and understand. The student must learn how to correctly tie their belt.
Uniform
The Taekwondo uniform is known in Korean as a Dobak. The uniform should be kept clean and in good condition. Only approved patches can be used. Students below black belt must wear a V-neck white uniform with a white collar. Black belts are allowed to have a black collar. *It is recommended that women wear a sports bar under their uniform.
Personal Requirements
All competitors shall keep their nails cut short and shall not wear any articles that may injure or endanger an opponent. Any competitor whose hair, in the opinion of the referee, is so long as to risk causing inconvenience to other competitors shall be required to tie it back securely.
a. Metallic Articles
Contestants are not allowed to wear any kind of metallic articles or hard objects, such as rings, eyeglasses (including prescribed safety eyeglasses or eye goggles), necklaces, watches, bracelets, earrings, etc.
b. Personal Hygiene
All competitors must maintain the highest standard of personal hygiene, keep their nails cut short, and groom their hair neatly.
